World Earth Day 2020:  LAWMA makes case for cleaner environment The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has appealed to residents in the state to maintain cleaner and livable environment, as the state government puts measures in place to curtail environmental degradation and the spread of the corona virus pandemic. The Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, made this appeal on Wednesday, in a statement  commemorating this year's World Earth Day in Lagos, a day set aside to show support for environmental protection. "Today is indeed a special day as we celebrate this year's World Earth Day and create awareness on the need for cleanliness, environmental sustainability and protection, in the face of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic", he said. SUMMARY OF ACTIONS/MEASURES INSTITUTED IN THE FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19 BY LAWMA The management of LAWMA would like to reassure all concerned on the measures taken to protect workers in the waste management sector. Below are some of the actions taken so far: - the purchase and distribution of 10,000 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to LAWMA operatives, PSP operatives and street sweepers which included: 1. Safety goggles 2. Nose masks 3. Hand gloves 4. Safety boots 5. Hazmat suits 6. Hand sanitizers - Stopped all scavenging activities on all dumpsites - Fumigation of all dumpsites and depots - Provision of personal hygiene products to LAWMA operatives, PSP operatives and street sweepers such as 1. Antiseptic bar soaps 2.
