Researchers from the University of Catania in Italy discovered  apples  are among the most contaminated fruits, while  carrots  are the most affected vegetables. The team studied  plastic contamination  in carrots, lettuces, broccoli, potatoes, apples, and pears. They concluded microplastics were “abundant” in the fresh food. LAWMA POISED TO ENSURE A SUSTAINABLE CLEANER ENVIRONMENT

The acting Managing Director/CEO of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, has disclosed that his focus was to make the Lagos environment cleaner and livable for all residents. He made the disclosure during a media parley on Thursday at LAWMA headquarters, Ijora-Olopa, where he enumerated the various programs and initiatives lined up by the Authority, to improve waste management across the metropolis. Odumboni said that drastic measures have been put in place to enhance operational efficiency by PSP operators, with particular emphasis on ensuring effective turnaround time at various dumpsites, adding that each disposal truck should not spend more than 20 minutes at the sites. The LAWMA boss said the Authority would collaborate with other agencies in the state to ensure that the challenge of improper waste disposal were holistically tackled, as establishing a cleaner and healthier environment required collaborative efforts.
