LAWMA Extends Advocacy Program to Schools…visits six schools at Lagos Island

Desirous to inculcate tenets of effective waste management into the younger generation, Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has embarked on a massive advocacy program among primary and secondary schools in the state. The Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni said that the agency’s decision to commence the school advocacy program was informed by the need to sensitise children on ethics of proper waste management, thereby catching them young, for better society. He said, “Our main aim for embarking on massive school advocacy is to raise the next generation of citizens who understand the place and importance of effective waste management and environmental sustainability in society. DON'T TURN ABANDONED PROPERTIES TO REFUSE DUMPS - LAWMA MD

The Managing Director/CEO of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Ibrahim Odumboni, has warned residents against turning abandoned properties to dumpsites, or using waste to reclaim lands for future uses. Odumboni who spoke through a release from the Authority at Ijora-Olopa, noted that both illegal practices constituted environmental offences, punishable by outright forfeiture of such properties and prosecution of violators. According to him, "LAWMA is issuing a strong warning that people should stop dumping refuse in abandoned properties. They should also desist from using waste to reclaim lands for the purpose of building houses. Anyone caught in those illegal practices will be made to face the wrath of the law, while such properties will be instantly confiscated by government.
