LAWMA DISLODGED SHANTIES AND ILLEGAL STRUCTURES NEWLY ERECTED BY MISCRANTS, DECLARE ZERO TOLERANCE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL ABUSE.

LAWMA Monitoring & Enforcement Team dislodged scavengers who recently erected illegal structures at Falomo underbridge along Law School via Muri Okunola Garden axis. it was discovered that the new illegal structure was constructed by scavengers who were recently dislodged from Obalende under the bridge, constituting an environmental nuisance & defacing public facilities. The monitoring & Enforcement Team, yesterday carried out a follow-up exercise & mop operation which led to the arrest of six scavengers. The H.O.D-Enforcement of the agency, Mr Idowu Sanni, who led the operation, said that the operation was to drive the agency mandate of creating a serene and habitable environment for Lagosians through the removal of illegal structures on walkways, road setbacks, shanties that has become a major cause of drainage blockage & indiscriminate waste dumping in the state.  He said the operation which was carried out yesterday lasted  hours, adding

2024 SEASONAL CLIMATE PATTERN: LAGOS TO EXPERIENCE MORE THAN NORMAL RAINFALL – COMMISSIONER....… Urges Residents to Remain Calm, Support Government’s Efforts

The Lagos State Government announced on Tuesday that the State is expected to experience more than normal amount of rainfall during the year 2024 rainy season with a total of 1936.2mm predicted rainfall Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab made this pronouncement at a media briefing on the Seasonal Climate Predictions (SCP) and the Socio-Economic Implications for Lagos State held at the Ministry’s Conference Room, Alausa, adding that the annual briefing is to alert Lagosians of the climate patterns and its socio-economic implications for residents.        He stressed that the average annual rainfall amount predicted for 2024 is 1936.2mm which is greater than the long-term average of 1721.48mm with the onset date expected to be the first week of April and ceasing in the first week of December. World Water Day: LASG launches new WASH policy.

Lagos State government on Thursday launched a new policy on water, sanitation, and hygiene that would specifically enhance, promote and improve access to clean water in the state. The policy, which was developed with technical support, from USAID, would provide a platform for the review and passing of specific WASH legislation and provide regulations and guidelines to achieve the state objectives in line with SDG6 ‘6, ‘Clean Water and Sanitation.
