There are many ways to prevent environmental crimes. Environmental crimes refer to any illegal activity that harms the environment, such as illegal dumping of hazardous waste, burning of refuse, and drainage abuse. These crimes have serious consequences for the environment, human health, and the economy. Therefore, it is crucial to prevent them from happening in the first place.


Monitoring and communication are the foundation of any effective campaign against environmental crime, and technology has improved the methods of accessing environmental crime activities. Satellites, aerial drones, remote trigger systems that start cameras or any other monitoring and security protocols, thermal imaging cameras, and radio frequency detection are examples of modern technology that allows us to scan over land and water. 

A combination of monitoring approaches, innovative technologies, and compliance programs can be used to prevent environmental crimes. By increasing the risk of detection and punishment, these approaches can deter individuals and corporations from engaging in activities that harm the environment.

The Magistrates’ Court in Oshodi, Lagos, has remanded 34 suspects for illegally occupying medians in the Ojo-Alaba Road corridor.

The Magistrates’ Court in Oshodi, Lagos, has ordered the remand of 34 individuals for the illegal occupation of medians along the Ojo-Alaba Road corridor. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Waste Management Authority, made this announcement on Tuesday. He indicated that the suspects were apprehended for various offences, including trading, residing, and defecating on the road median and its adjacent setbacks. During enforcement operations conducted on the preceding Saturday, 34 individuals, comprising 32 males and two females, were arrested for offences such as residing, trading on, and defacing the median and setbacks along the Ojo-Alaba Road corridor. They were arraigned today (Tuesday) before the Magistrate’s Court located at Bolade, Oshodi, and have been placed in custodial detention until 22 July 2025,” stated Gbadegesin in a statement disseminated via his official X account. LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT CHARGES PSP OPERATORS TO IMPROVED SERVICE DELIVERY AND TRANSPARENCY

As part of efforts to  achieve a cleaner, healthier Lagos with a sustainable waste management,  the Lagos State Government on wednesday charged PSP operators on improved service delivery and transparency.  Addressing a strategic meeting with the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAM), the  Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab declared that the modes of operation of PSP operators must be digitalized and accessible.
