Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has embarked on a two-day enforcement operation at Lekki axis, to clear the roadsides of various illegal activities defacing the environment. The exercise involved clearance of waste nuisance and dislodging of street trading from First Roundabout to Jakande axis, as well as Freedom Way entrance, on Lekki Epe expressway. The Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni said the operation would ensure that the area was rid of structures and elements constituting environmental nuisance, such as littering and improper waste disposal, currently undermining efforts of the Authority at maintaining sustainable cleanliness. LAWMA MD Leads Cleanup/Advocacy, Charges Ajiran Community On Compliance With Environmental Laws   The Managing Director/CEO of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, has charged residents and shop owners of Ajiran Community in Eti-Osa Local Government area, to take responsibility for their wastes, by patronizing the assigned PSP operator, and to pay their waste bills promptly. Odumboni, at a meeting with the monarch of Ajiran Community, HRM Oba Tijani Akinloye, attended by representatives of CDAs/CDCs, council chairman, landlords, market leaders, health officers, street captains and others, expressed deep-seated dissatisfaction with the state of their environment. The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), has commemorated the 2021 World Clean-up Day, along with a network of corporate bodies NGOs and governmental organizations, during which 75000 plastic bottles, weighing 1,250 kilogrammes, was harvested, along a 5-kilometre distance of Ilashe/Ibeshe beach, in the outskirts of Lagos. Organizations at the event include: Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance, FIBRA, an umbrella body for about twenty food and beverage manufacturing companies. Others are Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA); Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Nigerian Ports Authority and Lagos Ferry Service among others. 𝐋𝐀𝐖𝐌𝐀 𝐭𝐨 𝐁𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐩 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐞 Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) will commence a special clean up exercise within its four operational districts, over the next one month, in a bid to crank up on the existential waste challenges in the state and to sensitize the people on proper waste disposal, so as to ensure a cleaner Lagos. Ladipo Market was shut for sundry infractions - LAWMA Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has said that Ladipo Market, Mushin, was shut for sundry and persistent environmental infractions, which they failed to redress despite several warnings from the Authority. The Authority, in a press release on Friday, highlighted the deplorable state of the environment within and around the market, due to flagrant acts of improper waste disposal, capable of causing disease outbreak in the area. LAWMA said the market would remain shut until the traders turned a new leaf, by adhering to the environmental laws of the state, put in place to protect the environment and residents. LAWMA ENGAGES 35 NEW PSP OPERATORS The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), has engaged 35 new  PSP operators to boost waste evacuation in the State. At a brief inauguration event at the Olusosun landfill, Ojota, the managing director/CEO of LAWMA, Ibrahim Odumboni, described the development as a morale booster, representing a giant leap in the waste collection effort of the agency. He noted that the 35 new entrants have automatically increased the number of trucks available for waste collection, leading to a good increase in the number of daily truck trips to the various landfills in the state.
