SANWO-OLU TO LAUNCH THE LAGOS ADAPTATION & RESILIENCE PLAN (LCARP) NEXT TUESDAY

As the 10th Lagos International Climate Change Summit gets underway.

The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu will next Tuesday launch the Lagos Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan (LCARP) and the Lagos Climate Change Mainstreaming Strategy as the 10th Lagos International Climate Change Summit gets underway.

The Governor would be leading an array of special guests including a former Governor, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) to the event which will be held from the 4th to 6th of June at the Lagos Intercontinental Hotel, Victoria Island

The 2024 Summit which has as its theme: "Accelerating Climate Finance and Championing Local Adaptation Initiatives" and Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, @hctokunbowahab as host will feature a Special Governor session showcasing former Governor Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) and Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

The lead paper for the 10th Summit with the topic: "Exploring Climate Adaptation Finance" will be delivered by the C40 Regional Director for Africa, Dorah Modise while two former Commissioners for the Environment, Mr Tunji Bello and Dr Muiz Banire will feature in a special session with the topic:  "Perspective on Climate Change through the Lens on High-Level Pioneer Governance" 

The summit will also attract the presence of the  Honourable Minister of Communication Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani at one of the plenary sessions where he will speak on "Localizing Technology to upscale Local Adaptation Initiative"

The  3-day Summit which will be hybrid will attract academics, members of the Organised Private sector, environmentalists and top government functionaries.
It is expected that the communique developed at the end of the 3-day Summit will serve as a roadmap for Accelerating Climate Finance and Championing Local Adaptation Initiatives in Lagos State as past Summits have identified and proffered solutions to mitigate identified Climate issues.

EID-EL-FITRI: LAWMA CALLS FOR RESPONSIBLE WASTE DISPOSAL … to provide backup services during the festivities

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has called on residents to properly bag and dispose of their waste, through their PSP operators, during and after the Eid-El-Fitri festivities. Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, in a statement, disclosed that the Authority had put adequate measures in place to ensure that the celebration was observed in a dirt-free environment. He said, “As we mark this year’s Eid-El-Fitri, it is important that we do so in an environment-friendly manner. For this reason, we have put adequate measures in place to ensure that cleanliness is maintained across the metropolis during and after this period”. The Lagos State Government reaffirms its commitment to youth empowerment, civic participation, and climate consciousness.

Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, represented by Engr. Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu, spoke at the grand finale of the Lagos Has Talent competition Climate Edition, highlighting the event's role in showcasing youth-led climate advocacy. The initiative began in 2023 and gained traction with the involvement of social media influencer Maryam Apaokagi (Taooma) to amplify youth voices in climate issues. The government is focused on practical solutions for addressing climate change through the Lagos Climate Action Plan and the Lagos State Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan (LCARP).
