LAWMA Academy Concludes 2025 Summer School

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) recently completed its 2025 Summer School Programme at its headquarters in Ijora-Olopa, bringing together pupils from various schools in Lagos to engage in sustainability-focused activities.

The three-week program, themed "Saving the planet one step at a time," included classroom lessons, practical demonstrations, and field trips to enhance understanding of waste management and environmental sustainability. Activities included recycling workshops, where students created items like center tables from tires and plant vases from PET bottle covers.

Participants visited Mouka Limited to learn about waste management in manufacturing, and received a lecture on marine life from the Lekan Bakare Foundation, highlighting the dangers of ocean littering. 

At the closing ceremony, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, emphasized the importance of equipping children to become environmental custodians. Ayedun Emmanuel Ire was named the best-performing student, earning the title of "One Day MD," a promise made during the opening ceremony.

Other activities included a "Cooking without Waste" session, where pupils transformed overripe bananas into pancakes. Sustainability Analyst Olajumoke Agbetanmije praised LAWMA Academy for fostering environmental responsibility among youth. 

The 2025 Summer School Programme, LAWMA's fifth edition, underscores its commitment to equipping the next generation with the tools for positive environmental change. The event was attended by various management staff, including Executive Director Mr. Kunle Adebiyi.

EID-EL-FITRI: LAWMA CALLS FOR RESPONSIBLE WASTE DISPOSAL … to provide backup services during the festivities

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has called on residents to properly bag and dispose of their waste, through their PSP operators, during and after the Eid-El-Fitri festivities. Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, in a statement, disclosed that the Authority had put adequate measures in place to ensure that the celebration was observed in a dirt-free environment. He said, “As we mark this year’s Eid-El-Fitri, it is important that we do so in an environment-friendly manner. LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT CHARGES PSP OPERATORS TO IMPROVED SERVICE DELIVERY AND TRANSPARENCY

As part of efforts to  achieve a cleaner, healthier Lagos with a sustainable waste management,  the Lagos State Government on wednesday charged PSP operators on improved service delivery and transparency.  Addressing a strategic meeting with the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAM), the  Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab declared that the modes of operation of PSP operators must be digitalized and accessible.
