𝗟𝗔𝗪𝗠𝗔 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘀

The Lagos Waste Management Authority has warned residents against attacking or obstructing its enforcement officers during environmental sanitation and waste management operations across the state.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, issued the warning on Friday following reports that some personnel were threatened and assaulted while carrying out routine enforcement duties.

“I am compelled to warn, in the strongest terms, against any attempt to attack, harass, intimidate, or obstruct LAWMA enforcement officers while they carry out their lawful duties across Lagos State,” Gbadegesin said in a post on X on Friday.
He described the recent incidents as disturbing and unacceptable, noting that enforcement officers were not deployed to provoke conflict.

“Over the past few days, we have recorded disturbing incidents in which some of our personnel were threatened and, in a few cases, assaulted during routine enforcement of environmental sanitation and waste management regulations. This is unacceptable,” he said.
Gbadegesin explained that the officers were on the streets to protect public health, ensure compliance with the established waste management system and keep Lagos clean and safe.

He warned that any form of violence or intimidation against LAWMA officers would attract severe legal consequences

Air pollution is literally rewriting our DNA. New research links dirty air to the same cancer mutations found in smokers.

Air pollution can cause DNA mutations that have been linked to lung cancer, according to new research showing strong connections between polluted air and the same genetic changes often seen in smokers.  Scientists analyzed the cancer genomes of 871 non-smokers with lung cancer from four continents and found a clear pattern. People living in areas with high levels of air pollution had more mutations in key genes tied to lung cancer, namely TP53 and EGFR, and were nearly four times more likely to show the SBS4 mutation, a known result of exposure to tobacco smoke. These mutations were far less common in non-smokers from cleaner regions. The study also uncovered a new mutational signature, SBS40a, present in 28% of non-smokers but absent in smokers, with no clear environmental cause identified. Lagos Government seals Oko Oba Abattoir over unhygienic practices

Lagos State Government on Thursday announced the shutdown of the Oko-Oba abattoir over unsanitary activities, waste mismanagement and unhygienic handling of animal products.
